New police approach rolled out
Community police teams will take over responsibility for tackling certain crimes under changes introduced today aimed at cutting costs and pushing resources to the frontline.
The Met’s Local Policing Model (LPM) is being rolled across Waltham Forest today.
It is hoped a focus on regular patrols and crimes people are most concerned about will improve confidence in the service.
Officers will be stationed where they are needed rather than in specific wards.
A front counter service at Chingford Police Station will be open for 24 hours every day.
Contact points, where the public can meet police at specific times, will be open in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, Waltham House in Leytonstone, and Forest Road in Walthamstow.
The opening hours are 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by Saturdays between 2pm and 3pm.
Using the 101 telephone number, members of the public can also request a visit from a local officer within 48 hours.
Waltham Forest police have been contacted for further information.
