A sofa company managed to get some soft furnishings on board when they took to the waves to raise money for Children In Need.

Employees from furniture retailer DFS left their day jobs behind on Wednesday when they tackled the white water rafting course in Lee Valley Centre in Bulls Cross, Enfield, in an attempt to raise more than £1million for Children In Need.

Layla Yousri, 26, of Hailsham Terrace, Edmonton, who works at DFS in Great Cambridge Road, Enfield tested her rafting skills with 36 other staff from across the country and admitted she felt privileged to raft on the London 2012 Olympic circuit.

She said: “I feel very proud to be raising money for BBC Children in Need, it’s a fantastic organisation that does so much to support local charities all over the UK – including those right here in London. The white water rafting challenge was really tough but a lot of fun, and it was a honour to grace the same course as Team GB’s Olympians. We even managed to mount a DFS sofa on the raft.”

Helen Normoyle, Director of Marketing at DFS, said: “We like to give something back and make a difference to the communities around our stores. That's why we are so very proud to be supporting BBC Children in Need.  We set ourselves a massive challenge to raise one million pounds for BBC Children in Need and we’ve received a fantastic response from our employees.”
