Horley pub to cut prices for one day only in backing of national campaign
4:00pm Saturday 14th September 2013 in News
A Horley pub is to cut the price of all food and drink by 7.5% for one day only this month.
The Jack Fairman in Victoria Road will be cutting its prices on Wednesday, September 25, in backing of a national Tax Parity Day.
The day is aimed at highlighting the benefit of a VAT reduction in the hospitality industry.
Prices at the Wetherspoon pub will be reduced for the day in order to show the benefits of a VAT reduction to 5%.
At present, all food and drink in pubs is subject to 20% VAT, compared to supermarkets, which benefit from a zero VAT rate.
Ross Markwick, manager of the Jack Fairman, said: "We are proud to support the campaign to reduce the level of VAT within the pub industry.”
Mr Markwick said: "Customers coming to the pub on Wednesday, September 25, will find the price of their drink and food is lower than normal.
"We are keen to highlight the amount customers would save if VAT in pubs was lowered.”
He added: "So, for example, the total price of a meal and drinks for a customer at The Jack Fairman would be reduced from £10 to £9.25 on Tax Parity Day."
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: "A reduction in the level of VAT on a long-term basis will generate growth and create jobs in the important leisure and hospitality sector."
