Hold tight and prepare for the girly squeals of joy as Kingston University’s fresher’s ball gets a bit more interesting.
Tinchy Stryder and Marvin Humes will both DJ the James Bond-inspired event, due to take place on Friday, September 20.
Denza Gonsalves, Kingston University Student Union president, said: “We are very excited about the big names coming to our campus and we hope all our new students are excited too.
“Every year we like to make a special effort for our students to make them feel welcome and to make the start of their time at university exciting.
“They have been leaving us feedback that they can’t wait till the ball night. The ball tickets are selling faster than hot pancakes.”
An estimated 1,800 students are expected to attend, meaning this is a strictly ticket-only event with no none student guests allowed.
The event will run from 7.30pm until midnight with the official after party taking place at the Hippodrome.
Borough fire commander John Elwell said he would welcome the new intake.
He said: “We sometimes see a rise in fires when students come back. But it all depends on the group of students – some years are quieter than other. They are welcome back though.”
Mr Elwell’s top tips to students included not leaving cooking unattended, switching hair straighteners off, blowing out candles after they use and making sure smoke alarms were working.
Kingston police have not said whether they will be increasing patrols to cope with the freshers events this year.
