Boris tells political rival to 'get stuffed'
2:26pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in News
Boris Johnson has told a critic to "get stuffed" during a debate on fire service cuts.
The London Mayor is pushing ahead with his plan to cut ten fire stations, 14 engines and 500 jobs in the capital.
Under the plans Waltham Forest will see the number of fire engines reduced from eight to five, increasing the time it will take for a second fire engine to arrive at the scene of a blaze by nearly a minute.
Mr Johnson lost his temper during today's debate at City Hall when he was repeatedly heckled by firefighters who accused him of risking lives.
When one heckler said the number of fire deaths in London was on the rise, the Mayor appeared to mutter “bollocks” under his breath.
Then Labour assembly member, Andrew Dismore, claimed Mr Johnson had lied to the people of London about the possible impact of the cuts.
“Oh, get stuffed,” The Mayor replied.
He quickly apologised when he was asked to withdraw his remarks.
"It just popped out. I'm very sorry," he said.
Leader of Waltham Forest Council, Cllr Chris Robbins, has described the Mayor’s plan as “reckless”, but the Mayor’s office said the cuts are necessary and will not compromise safety.
