Epsom hospital to host free cancer help course for patients and loved ones
A free course to help patients, their loved ones and friends deal with the effects of cancer is to take place at Epsom Hospital.
The seven-week course, 'Managing the cancer experience’ will offer practical advice and emotional support for 12 participants – people need to be book their place by September 20.
The course explores a number of topics including the human body and cancer, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, side effects of treatment and health problems and diet and nutrition.
Other areas talked about will include talking about cancer, the role of the family and others as a support system, work and cancer and complementary therapies.
The course will run on Wednesday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm from October 13 to November 13 at the Macmillan Butterfly Centre, Epsom Hospital.
Tarlika Patel, Cancer Information Manager at the Trust, said, “This course is for anybody, young or old, whose life has been touched by cancer. It helps explore issues such as how to deal with the diagnosis and any side effects of their treatment.
“But people who come along can also learn about relaxation techniques which can help reduce stress and anxiety. We’ve been running the course for some time now, and we’ve had really positive feedback from participants.”
Places are limited and need to be booked before September 20.
