UPDATE: Bromley teenager George Verrier dies after fight
PARTYGOERS are mourning the loss of a teenager who died following a fight after his friend’s 16th birthday party.
George Verrier had been celebrating with Madison Moran and some other friends at her house in Blenheim Road, Bromley.
But shortly after leaving the event at around 12.45am yesterday morning (September 1) there was a fight involving around 20 people in Southborough Road at the junction with Blenheim Road.
Police gave George first aid but the 17-year-old did not want to be taken to hospital.
He made his way to a friend’s house in nearby Ferndale where he was staying.
Emergency services were called to this address at about 9.30am yesterday.
They were called to reports of a male unconscious and the 17-year-old was taken to an east London hospital.
He was pronounced dead there at 6.11pm last night.
Madison’s father Connie said: “He was a good friend of hers and she’s really distraught by it all.
“The party finished at 12:30 and it was midday the next day when we heard through Facebook.
“Everyone is just really distraught.
“He was a lovely and well liked young boy.
“He was one of the best boys and he was in the party loving life like a teenager should do.
“He was one of the quietest and most well liked boys.”
The 47-year-old added: “We are just devastated.
“We were supposed to have a family party yesterday and we cancelled it out of respect.”
George was said to be a huge Crystal Palace fan and is believed to have attended Ravensbourne School.
A post mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
His mother was too distraught to speak at her home in Heathfield Road, Bromley, this afternoon.
A Bromley police spokesman said: “At this early stage it appears the victim suffered a head injury as a result of an altercation in the early hours of September 1 in the vicinity of Blenheim Road, Bromley.
“Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
And investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway said: "Police were called to a disturbance at Southborough Road and the junction with Blenheim Road, Bromley; about 00.45hrs on Sunday, September 1.
“If you were driving along that road you may have driven past the disturbance involving approximately 20 people.
“A young man was assaulted and he later died of his injuries."
Any witnesses are asked to call the police on 020 8721 4005 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the investigation and remains in custody at a south London police station.
