A brand new service aimed at helping members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community tackle housing issues launches this week.

Sutton's new LGBT Forum has arranged for a drop-in session to take place at Age UK's base in Sutton's Civic Centre on Tuesday.

Members of the community of any age can call in to get advice on any issues they may have relating to housing and living issues. The session is the first of its kind in the borough but they will now take place every month with backing from Stonewall Housing.

Ty Ashby, chairman of Sutton’s LGBT Forum said: "I am very proud to have helped create this project and to be working with both of these two great organisations. I hope this will be a valuable tool within the community and may also help the housing services currently within the borough."

Councillor Jayne McCoy chairwoman of the housing, economy and business committee said: "Everyone has the right to be treated in with fairness and respect so we are very pleased to help facilitate this new service.

"A lot of hard work has been put in by the LGBT Forum to make this project a success and I hope that it will prove a real benefit to those it aims to serve."

The first session will start on Tuesday, September 3, and take place between 2pm and 3:30pm. After this, they will take place on the first Tuesday of every month.
