Gravesend barge crush victim Michael Russell fundraiser
A ROWING fundraiser is being held to help the family of a Gravesend port worker hit by a 40-tonne boat.
Michael Russell, 36, was left fighting for his life after becoming trapped between the barge and the pier at Denton Wharf, Mark Lane, on January 18.
The father-of-two suffered a fractured pelvis, along with chest and abdominal injuries and spent two months in intensive care at the Royal London Hospital.
A charity event is being held on September 28 and 29 at the Water Sports Centre in Greenland Dock, Rotherhithe to raise funds to help Mr Russell’s recovery.
Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome. Each barge will be crewed by five people to tackle the course organised by Thames Barge Driving.
The closing date for entries is September 9 and costs £250 per team.
