Youngsters learn new skills as part of summer activities programme
More than 30 young people from across the borough took part a range of summer activities learning new skills.
The girls of the group learnt how to braid, style and add extensions to hair, while the guys got to grips with clippers and were taught professional barber's skills using a real-life model.
The lessons were just some of the activities organised Harrow Borough Council’s youth development team to keep young people occupied during the summer holidays.
Paris Reveira, 15, of South Harrow, attended one of the sessions. He said: “I came to the braiding and hairstyling class because I wanted to learn how to do corn row hair styling.
“I’ve even been able to teach my mum some of things I’ve learnt. It’s been really fun and I’d definitely recommend it if you want to learn how to style hair.”
Jarell McGowan, 14, who tried his hand at barbering, said: “I thought we would be using dummies but we are actually cutting real people’s hair which was a good experience because it makes you really care about what you’re doing.
“It’s been really fun and I’ve met lots of new people.”
