With just a year to go before the centenary of the First World War, an Edmonton MP has urged people to find out more about the event.

Andy Love, Edmonton MP has encouraged his constituents to apply for the Heritage Lottery Fund to educate more people about The Great War and its impact locally.

The fund is making more than £1million a year available until 2019 as part of the First World War: then and now programme.

Andy Love MP said: “I’m delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund is making this money available to local communities.  Like many areas across the UK, the impact of the First World War on the people of Edmonton was extensive.   For those who want to find out more about its legacy or who wish to mark the centenary, I would urge them to get in touch with the fund.”

Those were the days when

^ hospital trains trundled along the single track branch railway from Angel Road station to Lower Edmonton, Low Level so that injured soldiers could either be transferred to the Military Hospital that has become North Middlesex University Hospital, or, soldiers who had been gassed could be transferred to the VAD operated hospital at Grovelands Priory to be treated in the basement room prior to recuperation
