A beauty queen has her eyes set on something more than just appealing for world peace when she enters her next pageant.

Edgware model Maurita Robinson was selected to represent her native Jamaica in the Miss Supranational pageant in Belarus.

The 23-year-old has entered and won three pageants in the last year - but she said this is one of the three most respected events in the world.

She added: “It’s just amazing. I love the feeling of competing in a pageant, you get such a buzz and for me, nothing else really compares to it. It’s just so glamorous and a really exciting world.

“I was so excited when I found out I’d been picked to represent Jamaica. It means a lot to me because it’s where my parents come from and it's an amazing place.

“I’m determined to do the country proud and take on the crown.”

As part of the competition, entrants are expected to design and make a dress to represent their country and Maurita plans to go all out with a traditional Jamaican outfit.

The Hertfordshire University student will fly out to Belarus on August 17 to prepare for the competition, which takes place in September.

She added: “It gets very competitive but I’m not going to let nerves get me down. It’s something I’ve wanted for so long and I’m determined to stay calm and do my best.

“Most people appeal for world peace in pageants, and I want to send a message across to people to inspire them to do what they want to do. I’ve achieved so much already.”

Last year she won the Miss International Yacht Competition in Monaco and has also won two smaller pageants.

Since then, the social worker has been touring the world brushing shoulders with celebrities - and has even starred in a music video alongside pop star Professor Green.

Maurita's modelling career began when she was just a toddler when she was in Mothercare and Next catalogues, but was scouted when she was a student at the London Academy in Edgware.

She added: “I was in the audience for the Miss Supranational pageant last year and thought it would be an amazing opportunity to be up on that stage - now I’ve been given this opportunity.

“Being in pageants is not only fun, but also helps boost your confidence. I am so excited and I’ve got my eyes set on the crown.”
