Metal thieves are targeting play areas in East Surrey, vandalising children's equipment to steal chains.
Mid Street play area in Nutfield and Jenner's Field in Lingfield are among the kiddies' areas which have been vandalised.
Tandridge District Council has said play areas across its district are being targeted.
A spokeswoman said: “Over the last couple of months, metal chains have been stolen from play equipment in Coldshot Play Area in Hurst Green, Valley Sports Ground Play Area in Caterham, Mid Street in Nutfield and Jenner’s Field in Lingfield. “The chains at the Coldshot play area had only just been replaced following a previous theft.”
She said: “It could take up to six weeks to replace the chains, which will mean the swings will not be available for children to use in the summer holidays.” Tony Elias, chairman of Tandridge District Council's community services committee, said: “It is very disappointing these thefts have taken place.”
Coun Elias said: “We have invested a lot of time and money in improving our play areas. “We are doing our best to find alternative materials and to make the repairs as soon as possible.”
Anyone who has information on the metal thefts is being urged to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference number P13223952.
