Enfield will receive a slice of a £30 million fund from the Mayor of London to help build new homes for the elderly and disabled.
The borough has been allocated £1 million from the Mayor's care and support housing fund, paying towards the development of 20 homes for disabled and the elderly in the area.
Adapted bathrooms, and homes with very few or no stairs and cupboards at a reachable height for wheelchair users are all guidelines that the new 20 homes will have to adhere to.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “It is essential that we increase the supply of purpose-built, quality homes for older and disabled Londoners if they are to have a real choice in how and where they live.
"These affordable homes will help people in Enfield remain in their own communities and, with a greater demand for quality and design, raise the benchmark for how this type of specialised housing is delivered in the future."
