The Olympic spirit returns to Elmbridge for a day with a cavalcade of sporting and cultural events planned for Leisure Live 2013.

A feast of family friendly events will take place in Brooklands Park to celebrate the London Prudential cycle race coming to town.

Spectacular BMX and trial bike displays will be on show along with live music, theatre and dance.

Children are well catered for with a host of activities and competitions including a scootathon for four to 11-year-olds.

Youngsters are invited to bring their scooters along to race for prizes on the day.

A climbing wall, spider mountain and bouncy castle will be available as well as face painting and arts and crafts for little hands.

Young and old will benefit from a workshop on how to fix your bike with Dr Bike on the cycle-focused weekend.

Wheels for All will be on hand to provide inclusive cycling for adults and children with different needs.

But it is not all cycling, with other professionals on hand to teach tennis, basketball and roller skating.

The London Prudential cycle race takes place on Sunday, August 4, with two races cutting through the heart of Elmbridge.

The course will mirror last year’s Olympic cycle route with 20,000 amateurs racing 100 miles and 150 of the world’s leading cyclists racing 140 miles.

Head of leisure and culture, Councillor Jan Fuller, says: “Leisure Live has become a well-established event in the borough attracting many local residents from Elmbridge and neighbouring boroughs.

“This year, there is a great number of new activities on offer so come and join us to celebrate the great sporting and cultural heritage we have locally.”
