Men allegedly dressed as Oompa Loompas have denied attacking a man in a kebab shop.

Three men, two of whom were reportedly in the costumes of the iconic orange dwarfs from the film Charlie and the Chocolate factory, are accused of assault causing actual bodily harm during an incident in Norwich on 27 December.

Louis Gelinas, 20, of Sutton, Matthew Wright, 20, of Potter Heigham, Norfolk, and Matthew Watling, 19, of Happisburgh, Norfolk, all deny an assault which left a 28-year-old man with cuts and bruises.

Police reported the alleged victim was knocked to the ground and hit several times by the attackers, including two men wearing Oompa Loompa costumes.

Following the incident a police appeal for information described some of the suspects being dressed as the characters from Roald Dahl’s classic novel.

The men appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday (July 1) and a trial date was set for September.
