FOUR Indian cricket stars stole a secret visit to Gravesend’s famous gurdwara recently - taking fans by surprise.

Batsmen Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli joined fast bowler Ishant Sharma for a flying visit to the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in between beating the West Indies and Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.

The Indian team went on to win the tournament by pipping England by five runs in the final at Edgbaston on June 23 but not before four of their top players stopped by Europe’s largest gurdwara.

A photo on Facebook showed them in an empty hall with Mukhtar Singh - a distant relative of Sharma’s who lives by the gurdwara and whose son is a young cricketer for Kent.

The image has received more than 1,700 likes and judging by some of the comments, many of those wish they could have been there to meet their idols.

Gurdwara committee member Brian Sangha was himself taken by surprise.

He told News Shopper: "It was an unplanned visit and we would have made something of it had we known.

"The gurdwara committee is absolutely delighted that our champions came to pay their respects."
