Enfield MPs Nick De Bois and David Burrowes went head-to-head in a charity cricket match.

The match was part of a kick start fund raiser day for community company Making A Difference (MAD) which aims to bring young and old together to help the youth into employment.

The charity seeks over 50s who are unemployed to mentor young people and prepare them for the working world.

With 2,500 people aged between 16 and 24 unemployed in Enfield, founder of MAD Vijay Sujan says the local company will identify young people who are going to have a "turbulent" transition to and offer positive support systems to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives.

The game, played at Holtwhites Cricket Club, Kirkland Drive, Enfield, was part of a whole host of events which saw prizes auctioned to the public as well as a barbeque staged on Friday, June 21.

Enfield North MP Nick De Bois, whose team won, said: “What is so important is the end result of this will be providing direction for young people who may have academic skills but are lacking a little bit of cut-throat to help get them into the working environment.

“The energy or drive to make it successful when an idea comes from the people themselves in their own community is hard to beat.”

David Burrows, Southgate MP said: “It brings together two wasted talents in Enfield. Both over 50s who are out of work and have lots still to offer, and younger people in our borough who are still to reach their potential and bringing together those two areas is a really exciting project.

“Financially it is not easy out there for many people, not least charities wanting to raise money so they have to look and find different and interesting ways to do that.”
