Synagogues will be joining together to try and attract young people with a evening of rock music.

The evening, called a ‘Shul of Rock’, has been organised by musician Simon Cooper and will include Shabbat songs set to some very untraditional tunes inspired by The Beatles, Status Quo and Led Zeppelin.

The event will take place on Friday June 28 at Middlesex New Synagogue, Bessborough Road, Harrow form 7.45pm.

Mr Cooper, who has performed with the likes of Elaine Paige and Sir Cliff Richard, was inspired to start the event after performing his own charity gig at his own Synagogue and realised the potential of rock music to draw in a younger audience.

Rabbi Kathleen Middleton, of Middlesex New Synagogue said: “This will be a Friday Night like no other. Whether you come to shul once a week or once in a blue moon, this is not to be missed.

“Simon Cooper’s band are true professionals and they are offering a unique take on a Shabbat service which is seriously fun and provoking.”

The evening will be collaboration between Harrow and Wembley Progressive Synagogue, Middlesex New Synagogue, Hatch End Masorti Synagogue and Kol Chai Synagogue.
