Prepare to be amazed when acrobatic touring company Ockham’s Razor swings into action at the Rose Theatre next week.

Hana Hausmeister talks to co-artistic director Charlotte Mooney about their new show.

An acrobatic aerial spectacular will transform the Rose Theatre into a 360 degree circus experience.

Touring company Ockham’s Razor will close their spring show in Kingston with striking visual performances and a local choir with a twist.

Charlotte Mooney, performer and co-artistic director, says: “The show is called Not Until We Are Lost, which is part of a quote, ‘Not until we are lost do we begin to find ourselves.’

"It is an immersive 360-degree panorama performance.”

The show begins with a four-day preparation, during which the Rose Theatre will be stripped bare and re-designed.

Mooney says: “We design a huge set that involves a huge swinging wall, tower and grate of bars.

"There is a choir of 20 local singers as well.

“There is live music also from a pianist.

"It is very, very visual and you are completely involved in the scenes and sounds.”

The story is based around five short scenes which explore what it means to be lost in different ways.

Mooney says: “It is like five scenes that are on different pieces of equipment. It is non-verbal.

"But there should be a clear unfolding of a relationship in each scene. They each reflect on that theme of being lost."

This will be the company’s third visit to the Rose Theatre.

Mooney and husband Alexander, who also performs in and directs the show, live in Kingston.

She says they always enjoy performing in their home town.

Mooney adds: "The Rose is a beautiful theatre. It is such a lovely idea with the groundlings and the curve of it.

"There are lots of lighting opportunities and galleries and nooks and crannies that we can get into.

"We are really excited to get in there and see what we can do. We have already got a few ideas."
