A 19-year-old man was hit by a train near a level crossing close to Northumberland Park Station on Saturday morning.

The British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police were called to the scene at 10.55am on May 4.

An ambulance, air ambulance and duty officer were dispatched after the London Ambulance Service recieved a call at 11am. 

The man had injuries to the chest and head and paramedics took him to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

It has been reported that the area was shut off for at least two hours and the train services to and from Northumberland Park were suspended.
