AN OPEN air concert and a football match are being arranged in memory of Bexleyheath schoolboy Philip Lamin who died playing the game he loved.

The Bexleyheath Academy pupil collapsed moments after scoring a goal during a match between year 11’s against sixth form at Goals Soccer Centre, Graham Road, on February 5.

He suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich where he died. He was 16.

In a touching tribute, his school have organised for two events this summer to remember much-loved Philip, who lived with his mum Juliet in Gordon Road, Belvedere.

Head of Year 11 Tracey Boswell said: “Losing a loved one is sad, but losing someone so young is a tragedy. Philip Lamin was a bright, intelligent young man who had his whole life ahead of him.

“Sadly, he collapsed and died from a cardiac attack whilst playing the game he loved, football. This game was never finished.

“But with the kindness and generosity from Erith Sports Centre and the enthusiasm from our year 11 and year 12/13 students we are hosting the Philip Lamin Memorial Cup game next month.”

Philip is believed to have been set for a trial at Fulham FC U18s once he had finished his GCSEs this summer.

In addition, an open air concert is being organised by the school for Philip’s family and friends, governors and directors of the Academies Enterprise Trust.

Mrs Boswell added: “We have no doubt that this will keep our students focus positive, and a genuine reason to smile again – and it is for this reason that I am proud to say that I have been part of it."

As News Shopper reported in February, Philip's friends and teachers clubbed together to raise £3,000 to help pay for his funeral which attracted hundreds of mourners.

All proceeds from both events will be donated to Cardiac Risk in the Young, C-R-Y, and heart charity Arrhythmia Alliance.
