A debutant London Marathon runner happily celebrated her 25th birthday in pain, completing the gruelling challenge to raise money for children and young people with autism.
Emily Locks, of Holderness Road, Tooting, enjoyed a birthday of aches and pain on Monday, the day after covering the 26.2 mile course in 4 hours and 41 minutes.
She collected more than £1,200 for national charity Ambitious about Autism, where she also works in the fundraising team.
She said: "I’ve wanted to do the London Marathon since I was a kid watching it on TV.
"My legs are pretty sore today so I haven’t got any big birthday celebrations planned."
Runners at the start line held a 30 second silence in memory of the tragic events at the Boston marathon last week.
Miss Locks said "It was a really great way to start the event, with the 30 seconds silence. There were tens of thousands of runners and it was completely silent.
"It was amazing and it was really important to do that before the event."
