A renowned group of Catalan human tower builders descended on Clapham Common last weekend to show off their gravity-defying skills.

More than 170 members of the Castellers de Vilafranca joined up on Saturday to demonstrate the Catalan tradition of building castells or human towers.

The awe-inspiring group, founded in 1948, consist of adults and children, with ages ranging from five to 75 and train three times per week.

The older members provide the base of the towers, while the stronger members support the younger, more agile participants who form the actual tower.

The castells, a uniquely Catalan custom, have been enjoyed during celebrations and festivals in Barcelona for 300 years.

On Saturday, the Castellers de Vilafranca's tower reached five stories formed by the entire 170-strong team.
