World class rock and jazz bands will be among artists performing at Barnet’s biggest music festival.

The tenth Mill Hill music festival will see the first performance of rockabilly band The Polecats in their home town since 1979.

First known as the Mill Hillbillies, the internationally renowned band will appear at Allianz Park stadium on June 22, alongside rock and roll group Loaded Dice.

Also appearing at the stadium in Greenlands Lane will be Louis Armstrong tribute band the Bateman Brothers, who won the 2011 British Jazz Award for Best Jazz CD.

This year, the festival will showcase local groups and musicians at venues across Mill Hill.

The festival, which has run every two years since 1995, will open on June 15 with a concert from the Barnet-based Holbrooke String Quartet at St Paul’s Church in The Ridgeway.

Other highlights will include a night with award-winning local Jewish band K-Groove and an English version of Puccini’s La Bohème from OperaUpClose, which won the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Opera Production.

The festival is organised by unpaid volunteers on a not-for-profit basis and many of the events are free.
