The trial of a woman accused of hurling racist abuse at tram passengers is due to begin today.

Emma West, of New Addington, was charged with two racially aggravated public order offences after a video was posted to YouTube in November 2011.

The video showed showed a woman abusing black, Asian and Polish passengers while holding her son on a tram travelling between Croydon and Wimbledon.

It was watched more than two million times in just 24 hours.

The 35-year-old's case has been hit by a series of delays since she entered her not guilty plea to the charges.

She is due to appear at Croydon Crown Court later this morning.
