A glamorous director of a hairdresser in Kingston will tie back her locks to take part in the London Marathon this month.

Ceri Cushen, technical director of Metropolis Hairdressing - fronted by elite hairdresser Robert Masciave - is hoping to raise £1,800 for Spinal Research.

The 38-year-old is supporting the charity in honour of other hairdressers who often have to endure chronic back and neck pain through their work.

She said: “They’re quite a small charity but they do amazing things.

“I’ve always wanted to take part in London Marathon and when a place came up with Spinal Research this year I decided to go for it and see how fast I can finish. I love a challenge and running so it’s perfect. Hopefully with the help of fund raising for Spinal Research UK, spinal health problems can eventually be eliminated.”

She runs 35 miles a week in training and is aiming to complete the 26.2-mile challenge on April 21, in four and a half hours.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity that funds medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and neurotrauma.
