The Reigate and Redhill Free Burma Group, a network of local people who work to bring about change in Burma by supporting global campaigns at a local level, has organised a free showing of a documentary film called Burma's Secret War.
The film will be shown at the Harlequin Theatre in Warwick Quadrant, Redhill, on Tuesday, April 16, at 7.30pm, with all welcome.
John Scovell of the group said: “The film exposes Burma's attacks on the ethnic states. “It features the word of the Free Burma Rangers, who penetrate the forbidden areas of Burma to bring humanitarian relief and record human rights abuse.”
He said: “The film shows actual attacks on the Karen people and includes interviews with people who have been on the receiving end of the regime attacks.
“The film also features an interview with democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.”
After the showing there will be an opportunity for discussion and the audience will be brought up to date with events in Burma.
Mr Scovell said: “The group believes that there has been some change in Burma but more needs to be done.
“The group believes that local people working together can help bring about change in Burma and make a better world for all.”
