The winner of a busking competition held by the Mayor of London is encouraging other talents to give it a go.

Enfield singer-songwriter Natalie Shay, 14, won a London Underground busking licence during mayor Boris Johnson’s Gigs 2012 and is urging others to get involved.

The mayor launched Gigs 2013 on Tuesday, at which musicians will be given the chance to play at iconic London landmarks and win a busking licence, recording sessions, coaching and music equipment and a year’s course at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance.

Natalie said: “Playing at Gigs 2012 was the best thing that could have happened for me as a young artist just starting out.”

The Mayor Boris Johnson said: “It is surprising how many stars started their careers busking - from Simon and Garfunkel to Tracy Chapman.

"This is the perfect opportunity for our talented young musicians to show off their skills and win prizes that could help launch their careers.”
