Surprise cash was flashed this morning during the latest in a string of shock cash mobs to support independent traders.

Ten people armed with £10 notes surprised mother-of-three Nikki Killeen, who set up pop-up shop Nikki’s Homeware and Gifts for one day only in Brigadier Free Church Hall in Brigadier Hill.

The cash mob is the 16th of its kind, with the craze kicking off back in October when people - who met on the Facebook page Foodies Enfield - decided to hit The Village Wholefood Store in Forty Hill.

Ever since, unsuspecting traders have been targeted by the mob, which aims to create a buzz around the independent stores in the borough while supporting them in tough financial times.

Ms Killeen, who is running the pop-up shop next to the church’s pop-up play area, called Katie's Kastles, said: “I saw them queuing to get in and they looked like they may have been a shock cash mob, but I didn’t realise they were going to be aimed at me."

She said the cash mob came at "just the right time" because she was having a quiet morning.

Danielle Down runs Katie’s Kastles and hopes new traders will open pop-up shops weekly alongside the play area in the church hall.

Karen Mercer, who runs My Coffee Stop in Enfield Chase Station, leads the cash movement and asks people to come up with shops to target through her website www.shockcashmob.co.uk.

She said: “What Danielle has done with Katie’s Kastles, and having a pop up business, is just a brilliant idea - I love it, so I thought ‘let’s do it.’”

The group met for warm drinks first at 9am in The Cafe Lounge in Lancaster Road, a venue chosen to help support another independent trader.
