AFTER £4m was spent on redeveloping Bromley South station you would be forgiven for expecting pretty plush toilets.

But instead after a year’s worth of building work passengers have been left with no toilets at all.

The facilities are there and they were refurbished in the redevelopment works but they have been out of action for most of the year.

They were opened during the last week of January but closed a week later and it is not yet known when they will be reopened.

Network Rail says the fault is not with the new toilets or the work associated with them.

Instead the problem is said to have been caused by an issue with the pipes under the platforms and track, which Southeastern says caused the toilets to repeatedly get blocked before the redevelopment works happened.

This Is Local London: A sign on the toilets at Bromley South station explains the problem

A Network Rail spokesman said: “Investigations, using underground cameras, have been carried out and we have identified the drainage issue.

“Because of the location of the problem, it is not a straight forward repair but we will do all we can to reopen the toilets as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for the disruption this is causing.”

But this has not gone down well with passengers using the station.

Mother-of-three Jo Youll, 36, of Bromley Road, Beckenham, said: “As a regular user of Bromley South station I was excited to see the new look station, I heard it had cost £4m so thought it would be impressive.

“I was travelling to London with my children, who as usual needed the toilet just after leaving the house - not a problem I thought we can check out the brand new station toilets, only to find that after just a week they are blocked and unable to be used.

“What a joke.”
