CELEBRATED Bromley resident Sir Thomas Dewey has been honoured with a commemorative blue plaque, unveiled in Shortlands last week.
The plaque has been placed in South Hill Road, on the home in which the philanthropist and prominent businessman lived for many years.
Members of the Dewey family and members of the Friends of South Hill Wood, who worked closely with the council on the installation of the plaque, attended the unveiling on March 22.
Councillor Peter Morgan, Portfolio Holder for Renewal and Recreation, said: "A blue plaque is an appropriate way of celebrating the important achievements of Sir Thomas Dewey, who made significant contributions to the local area.
"He funded many good causes and gave his house to be a hospital during World War One.
"We are very proud to celebrate his life and to help future generations remember his past achievements."
Other celebrated Bromley residents with blue plaques include Enid Blyton, who lived in Beckenham for much of her life, David Bowie, who was born in Beckenham and Sir Thomas Crapper, inventor of the flushing toilet, who lived in Penge.
