A night of classic 1960s and 1970s rock from two of the era’s most iconic bands kicks off in Kingston this weekend, writes Ross Logan.

Kingsmeadow Live plays host to the Faces Experience, who will be belting out all the greatest hits from pioneering rock groups the Small Faces and Faces.

Formed in London’s East End in 1965, the Small Faces are regarded as one of the UK’s most influential rock groups of all time.

Hits included Itchycoo Park, All or Nothing and Afterglow of Your Love, as well as the concept album Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake, featuring the nonsense “Unwinese” of comic Stanley Unwin.

After the departure of lead singer Steve Marriot in 1969, the group were joined by singer Rod Stewart and guitarist Ronnie Wood to become Faces.

The new line-up enjoyed success with hits including Stay With Me, Cindy Incidentally and Ooh-La La, before Stewart’s solo success eclipsed the group’s and the band split in 1975.

The Faces Experience combine two leading tribute acts into one explosive unit – Stan Terry as Rod Stewart and Small Faces cover band the Small Fakers.

Expect a raucous evening of rock, roll and Deep Joy as the Faces Experience bring psychedelia to Kingsmeadow from 8pm.

The night goes on with DJs until 1am, so make sure you have booked yourself in for a Lazy Sunday.
