Police need help after racist attack
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man racially abused and mocked for his religion.
The victim, an Asian man from Mitcham, was taunted and pushed by his attacker, described as mixed race, 6ft and slim, while waiting for a train at platform 15 Clapham Junction at 7.20pm March 5.
PC Neil Allison said: “He was approached by another man, who began to shout offensive racial abuse at him, including mocking a religious marking on his head.
“The man was aggressive to the victim, pushing him and continuing his tirade of abuse, even as both had boarded the 7.34pm service to Epsom.”
Police are currently making enquiries into the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage from the station and on the train.
The man involved was wearing black clothing and left the train at Balham station.
PC Allison said: “The man’s actions were appalling, and left the victim feeling understandably shocked and disgusted.
“Anti-social, racist or violent behaviour has no place on the railway and passengers should feel able to use the network without fear of becoming a victim of crime.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information about what took place, should get in touch.”
