Singer Chesney Hawkes visited hospital this morning to cheer on a fan as he listened to nothing but his hit song The One and Only for 24 hours.

The star of 1991 hit movie Buddy's Song donned a red nose during a visit to Epsom Hospital, where medical records co-ordinator James Beckley was in the middle of listening to the track 440 times.

Mr Beckley will keep listening to the song until 7pm tonight, but has already raised more than £1,000 in aid of Comic Relief to mark Red Nose Day.

Chesney Hawkes got in touch with Mr Beckley to thank him and then decided to come down and meet him.

Mr Beckley, a father-of-two from Sutton, took on this crazy challenge because he regards The One and Only as the ‘theme tune’ of his life.

He said: "I know it’s cheesy, but I’ve always liked the song and if I was going to have a theme tune, this would be it.

"If I was a boxer for example, I would walk out to the ring listening to it."
