Lewisham Council sets up £500,000 youth task force
5:24pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News By Mark Chandler
A SCHEME aims to boost the prospects of Lewisham youngsters with £500,000 in council funding.
Lewisham Council's youth task force will see secondary school pupils given an 'employability passport' recording their experience and skills, along with personal support for those who need help after leaving school in a project backed by Jobcentre Plus.
There will also be a work experience and training scheme for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
The youth service volunteer programme will be improved, along with the introduction of mentoring for those on the Mayor of Lewisham's traineeship programme.
Lewisham Council's cabinet member for youth Councillor Crada Onuegbu said: "We know that with the right support and opportunities they can achieve their potential and go on to lead successful adult lives.
"Young people know what works for them and they were pivotal to the development of these initiatives."
