Armed Forces Community Covenant proposed for Dartford

A COVENANT with the armed forces has been proposed in Dartford.
The Armed Forces Community Covenant would complement the national equivalent which outlines a moral obligation between the nation, the government and the armed forces.
The aim is to encourage support for current and former service personnel living in Dartford as well as their families, widows or widowers.
One-hundred-and-fifty other councils have already signed similar agreements which pledge support in areas such as housing, education, leisure provision and personal social services.
Dartford Council has already made a commitment to provide secure tenancies to ex-armed forces members who have been honourably and medically discharged.
At a cabinet meeting on Thursday (March 7), council leader Jeremy Kite said: "This is to demonstrate that we are absolutely behind people who are routinely doing things that I don’t think anybody around this table would dream of doing.
"This sends out a major statement that this council has full respect for our armed forces."
