Downham man charged with murdering three-year-old boy in Brangbourne Road

A DOWNHAM man is set to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow (March 12) accused of murdering a three-year-old boy in his house.

Ben Igbinedion, of Darent House in Brangbourne Road, appeared via virtual court at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Friday (March 8).

The 43-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey.

This follows the death of the child on March 2 at Lewisham Hospital.

Staff at the hospital alerted officers shortly before midday that day following the death of the boy.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as internal bleeding from injuries to the rib and pelvic region.

Officers from the Met’s homicide and serious crime command division are investigating.

Two women aged 34 and 28 were also arrested last Tuesday (March 5) in connection with the investigation.

The 34-year-old woman has been subsequently released and police are taking no further action while the 28-year-old has been bailed to return pending further inquiries

Police say this is a domestic incident but the boy is not the defendant’s son.
