UPDATE: Bromley Marks & Spencer trolley rage victim Michael Buckley dies in hospital

A FAMILY friend has paid tribute to a trolley rage victim who has died in hospital 11 weeks after an altercation in The Glades shopping centre in Bromley.

Michael Buckley had been in hospital since December 22 last year after he was struck by a trolley while shopping in Marks & Spencer.

The 60-year-old fell to the ground and sustained injuries including a broken hip and wrist.

Four days later police were informed Mr Buckley, of Whatman Road, Forest Hill, had suffered further health complications, which are believed to have included a heart attack.

He died on Tuesday (March 5) and medical tests are being carried out to establish the cause of death.

One of his neighbours, who did not want to be named, says she had known him for about 15 years and had been looking after his parrots while he was in hospital.

She said: “He loved wildlife and he was a very generous man and very well liked man.

“Every single year before his wife Irene died two years ago they would go to Arizona because one of his favourite activities was to film hummingbirds.

“He was an extremely independent man and I was thinking whether he would go to Arizona again.”

She added: “He loved Elvis Presley and was a consummate fan.

“He was just a nice quiet pleasant man.”

His neighbour says he was quite a frail man who took early retirement from the office of Camberwell New Green Cemetery some years ago because of a knee injury.

She added: “He wore a hearing aid and even though he was 60 he looked much older and looked like a strong breeze would blow him away.”

Officers from the Met’s homicide and serous crime command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A 30-year-old woman, from Lewisham, was arrested on December 26 last year on suspicion of GBH.

She was taken into custody at a south London police station and has been bailed to return on March 26, pending further investigation.

Pretty darn good I would have thought, worst case scenario is, she is done for man slaughter which, in this country carries an 18 month to two year sentence, out in a year with good behaviour, best case scenario, she claims self defence and gets a house, a £500 lump sum and an apology from the judge for stress caused!

Actually, Mr Buckley wasn't really that elderly. After all, 60 isn't ancient. I'm at a 60th birthday party today and the guy still plays sport, parties hard and lives life - nothing elderly about him. There must have been some complications in this case. Of course, doesn't change the fact this woman acted like a complete animal.

But why should people be restricted to when they shop? More likely he went during the day and encountered this woman with tragic consequences

I can see the sense in frail, very young or elderly people avoiding busy times at the shops. This makes sense as it reduces the chances of them being bumped or jostled. However, it's obvioulsy their choice and they have every right to shop when they choose.
Whatever they choose, they have a right not to be barged by some pondlife. This pond scum, on the other hand, deserves to live the rest of her life in abject misery.

Hope NS cover the case when it (hopefully) gets to court, the statements from witnesses will make interesting reading as to what this woman said (screamed) and did

Has this gone to Bromley Magistrates court yet or were the police waiting to see what became of this poor fellow first?

If the police charge someone with GBH and they subsequently die (as in this tragic case) can the charge be amended?

How rude of you to say that the elderly - the gentleman was only 60 should think before they go shopping at peak times. Everyone has aright to go out what ever time they feel like - the gentleman may even have been going in his work break for all you know! This is a lesson ? what that people should do as you say and stay at home during peak times. I do hope that when your 60 or elderly as you put it someone tells you to stay ay home as it does not suit society see how you like being told what to do. The woman on the other hand should have had more respect for another person. If i were to accidentally knock someone with my trolley 1st thing id do is say sorry and make sure they were ok - unfortunately not everyone is the same, i dont know the story but the woman obviously was rude and by the sounds of it barged into the gentleman knocking him to the ground. RIP poor fella.
All he wanted to do was shop like everyone else!

Most "elderly" people I know usually go shopping during the day, as it's not so busy as evenings or weekends when those who work tend to go

But why shouldn't they go at whatever time they chose?

Simon bald says...

Most elderly people have all the time in the world to potter about, so it makes sense they go shopping at off peak times giving the rest of decent society to shop at a quicker pace

'Decent society', now I know you're on a wind-up. So, you're suggesting, the elderly, young, disabled and infirm and not part of a decent society? Tsk, Tsk, Simon bald, you'll have to do better than that.

you all seem to be calling this gentleman Elderly he was only 60 which is Far from old these days. A lot of people 60+ still go to work full time. for arguments sake Tony Gubba 69 was still working full time he was NOT classed as elderly, and why should anyone elderly or young go out shopping at set times to keep the rest of decent society happy. Some elderly people are far quicker and more with it than younger people, Give people a break YOU will ALL be "Elderly" one day, then see how you feel about being told when you should go shopping!
Plus as i do not remember the other story there is no mention above of WHAT time the gentlemen went shopping just mentions some lady of half his age and trolley rage, probably coz he was in her way. Hope she can live with the consequences - could have been someone doing same to a member of her family!
