Flooding shuts down Epsom Hospital A&E for four hours

Ambulances were barred from taking patients to hospital for four hours today after a lab was flooded.
Epsom Hospital closed its accident and emergency department at 10.45am after a pipe fractured in a laboratory used to carry out urgent blood tests.
It re-opened at about 2.30pm and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS said A&E services were back to business as usual.
A spokesman for the trust said: “We are pleased to announce that disruption caused by a flood at Epsom Hospital earlier today has been resolved.
“We can confirm that no operations had to be cancelled, but the ambulance service used other hospitals for a short time.
“We would like to thank our staff for their support during the incident and for ensuring services continued to run as smoothly as possible.
“We apologise for any inconvenience people may have experienced.”
The hospital has reviewed patients across the hospital who needed tests to see if they would have to be transferred to another hospital.
