Firefighters take seven hours to extinguish house and shed fire

Firefighters took seven hours to extinguish a fire which damaged two floors of a house and a shed on Saturday.

Epsom fire station was called to the fire at an end-of-terrace house in Bloomsbury Close, Epsom, at 12.45am.

An Epsom fire officer said the ground and first floors were ablaze, with a "fully developed fire" on the ground floor.

He said the occupants were at the scene, but were not believed to be in the house at the time, and that the fire spread to the shed and an adjacent bungalow.

But a fire officer from Leatherhead said it was believed that a fire in the shed had spread to the house.

Five fire engines, an ambulance and a fire victim support unit attended the scene.
