A teenager is in hospital after being stabbed in Streatham this afternoon.

Police were called to Streatham High Road at 4.55pm to reports of an assault.

Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended and found a 17-year-old boy suffering stab wounds.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

One witness who did not want to be named, described seeing the boy "run for his life" moments before the attack.

He said: "He was being chased, he was scared-running for his life. After [he was stabbed] I was trying to stem the blood, he had been stabbed in the stomach and the back."

One person has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
