Lord Rogers's Wimbledon home gets Grade II Heritage listing

A steel and glass Wimbledon home designed by an internationally acclaimed architect has been awarded Grade II listed status.

The private single storey house in the affluent area of Parkside overlooking Wimbledon Common was built by Richard, Lord Rogers, in 1969 for his Italian parents.

The home was given Grade II status on Monday on the advice of English Heritage who recognised it as an early example of a “high-tech steel-framed house” and its experimental use of materials and techniques.

Lord Rogers said: “I was born in Italy and spent my early life surrounded by beautiful, historic and modern architecture and this had an effect on  my work.

“My mother loved to cook and so the open plan kitchen is the heart of the house where family and friends could gather, very much in the Italian way.”
