Drivers face another week of delays as TfL roadworks on 'dangerous crossing' overrun
Drivers face another week of delays after roadworks on a 'dangerous' crossing overran.
The crossing at the junction of Leatherhead Road and Merritt Gardens will be delayed for another week.
Work on an improved pedestrian crossing, following an incident in which six-year-old Jessica Yates was hit by a motorbike, began on February 4.
Her mum Sarah started a petition that gained almost 1,800 signatures sparking the crossing work.
The work, being carried out by a Transport for London (TfL) contractor, was meant to end this weekend but will now not finish until Saturday, March 2.
Chessington councillor Andrew Day, said: "There has been a lot of traffic delays and we hope it will soon be over.
"We just hope they will be done as quickly and safely as possible."
He said it had been taking drivers about half an hour to get from one end of the A243 to the other.
No-one at TfL was available for comment.
