Plans for hundreds of homes across an area stretching from Southgate to Edmonton are one step closer to being given the go-ahead.

Latest proposals to transform the area around North Circular Road are likely to be approved when Enfield Borough Council meets on Wednesday February 27.

The plans, which include hundreds of new homes as well as space for shops and businesses, were given the green light during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 13.

If they are accepted, Enfield Borough Council will seek Government support and investment for the scheme.

The authority hopes the North Circular Area Action Plan will encourage future investment either side of the road while ensuring the scheme meets the needs of existing communities.

The future of the area has been uncertain for years following the failure of a number of proposed improvement schemes.

Cabinet member for business and regeneration, Councillor Del Goddard, said the project will transform the area into a greener, more vibrant, sustainable and desirable place to live.

He said: "People living in the areas acknowledge that the area around the A406 is in drastic need of improvement and we're determined to use the area action plan as the catalyst to provide real change to our communities in the area.

"We want to create jobs, tackle deprivation and crime and tackle a wide range of issues in the area to ensure that our residents in this part of the borough enjoy living in a better and more pleasant environment.

"To do that we're clearly setting out what our aspirations for the area are and we'll then seek investment to deliver real change in these communities."

The action plan is due to be published on March 8 before it is submitted to central Government for examination the following month.
