Police have launched a manhunt for an armed fugitive after an incident on Epsom Downs.

The search is underway for a man who allegedly threatened to shoot another man yesterday afternoon.

Surrey Police said they received reports of the incident at 3.50pm and police officers, including armed officers, rushed to the scene and located the alleged intended victim, who was uninjured.

The police are still hunting for the other man.

A search has been made of a property in Hazel Way, Chipstead, as part of the police’s enquiries.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "There is no information at this stage that this man poses a wider threat to the public however residents are advised to take sensible precautions and report any suspicious behaviour to the police."

Grandstand Road, Epsom Downs, was closed in both directions yesterday afternoon, between Downs Road and Old London Road, following the incident and residents reported that a helicopter were circling the Downs.

More to follow.

Any idea why Tattenham Grove was closed off by the Police last evening (Tues 19)about 6.30. Not even pedestrians allowed through - rumours of a siege in a house in the road, any news of that?
