Images of injuries Gravesend man Nathan Rawling inflicted on baby - exclusive
THESE shocking images show the devastating injuries suffered by a one-month old baby in Gravesend.
Nathan Rawling was yesterday jailed for 10 years for the “frenzied and brutal” attack which almost killed the child.
The 31-day-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was left with 26 rib fractures, two fractured collar bones and a broken right arm following the attack on the morning of December 1, 2011.
Rawling, 36, who lived in St Gregory’s Crescent at the time of the assault, denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent but was found guilty by a jury at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday afternoon.
The computer generated images obtained by News Shopper were used by the prosecution during the three-week long trial.
The court heard how the boy was rushed to Darent Valley Hospital where staff battled for ten minutes to resuscitate him after he suffered a heart attack and stopping breathing.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Pritchard, of the Kent Police public protection unit, said: “I have never seen injuries this extensive on a child that has survived and indeed is now thriving.
"We would not have expected this child to have survived apart from the good work of Darent Valley Hospital and its staff.”
