England rugby players were among the first customers to enjoy chicken dishes from the newest branch of Nando’s.

The Portuguese restaurant welcomed Saracens player Chris Ashton and London Irish’s Alex Corbisiero when it opened its doors in Station Road, Teddington.

Ashton said: “A lot of rugby players practically live in Nando’s, so when we heard the new Teddington restaurant will be opening on Twickenham’s doorstep, we couldn’t believe our luck.

“The new restaurant looks fantastic, and I’m sure the restaurant staff will be seeing a lot more of us.”

Prop forward Corbisiero said: “As athletes, we have to pay close attention to the foods we eat, but fortunately peri-peri chicken is not only good for our diets and a great source of protein, it’s also delicious.”

Eager customers queued around the corner when the new restaurant opened on Wednesday, January 30.

The new venue seats 100 people offers 30 new jobs and raised £600 from two training days earlier in the week, which will be donated to the Richmond and Kingston branch of Cross Roads Care, which provides respite care.
