Whitton High Street works begin next week

Resurfacing work in Whitton High Street will begin next week as part of a £1.5m regeneration project from Richmond Council.

The improvement works begin on February 4, which include resurfacing the carriageway, reducing the amount of street furniture and signs, planting new trees and replacing pavements between the Admiral Nelson pub and the junction at Jubilee Avenue and Montrose Avenue.

The works will be undertaken in two phases, with the first consisting of the realignment of the kerbs to define the on-street parking, and is expected to be completed within 16 weeks.

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place.

A council spokesman said there were no plans for road closures or diversions and traffic will be controlled with stop and go boards.

Councillor Chris Harrison, cabinet member for highways and street scene, said: “We will make every effort to complete the planned works while keeping inconvenience to businesses and residents to a minimum.

“While some delays can occur due to adverse weather or other emergencies, we ask that people co-operate with the works and observe the signage in order for us to deliver the planned works and finish the project in the scheduled time.”

The project is the second phase of the uplift programme, which has already funded new street lighting and shop fronts.
