Mum's the Word with Angellica Bell: Are you a super mum?
7:00am Sunday 27th January 2013 in News
I met a woman this week who was working full-time and also had three children, the youngest being a 10-month-old and she juggled it all while her husband worked away Monday to Friday.
In my eyes that meant she had two full-time jobs. I was in awe. Had I just met supermum?
Also this week while I went to the supermarket to pick up a couple bits, I saw a lady with twins shopping on her own with a full trolley of food, packing it all up at the till.
She was in control and getting on with it. I was in awe. Had I just seen another supermum?
In the past I have spoken to inspiring women whether by working on The One Show or having a general chat on the high street and when I ask them what they do, some of them apologetically say “Oh, I’m just a housewife who looks after the children” – well they are wrong.
They are all supermums. They exist up and down the country.
The truth is running a home takes skill, time- management, organisational skills, people management and patience.
The same sort of attributes needed to thrive in an office environment (in my humble opinion).
So this week I decided I wanted to join the supermum club.
Yesterday before 9am I had fed my son breakfast, baked banana and pistachio bread, cooked cauliflower cheese for dinner, washed the clothes, emptied the dishwasher, caught up with emails and had time to watch Homes under the Hammer with a cup of tea.
I had a new lease of life and was ready for whatever lay ahead that day.
Bring it on. So mothers let us unite for we are truly superhuman – all we need now is a cool cape crusader outfit.
